CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Link
Character Canon: Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword.
History: A brief history. You will have to scroll down to the particular portion for Skyward Sword. This wiki lists all the incarnations of Link.
AU History:
Link, like canon, will continue to have a mysterious past. His lineage is unknown and he grew up at a local Union orphanage without ever being adopted in his 16 years of being there. Although he is often lounging around, he is incredibly smart and is determined to join the rangers. He longs for adventures outside of Union in a way that will protect all his classmates and the general populace of Union.
He often takes a stick and practices his sword skills against trees without permanently damaging them. In his room during free time, Link has been building a makeshift bow and arrows with whatever material he can get his hands on. He sometimes heads into a park at night where he won’t be caught and practices his aim on inanimate objects. He’s not very good but he enjoys the solitude and the peace he finds in working towards his goals. It is also during these times he hones in on his survival skills, such as building a fire and learning how to sharpen a blade with a rock.
Canon Personality:
Link is a simple and quiet teen that enjoys sleeping-in in the mornings. He surrounds himself with supportive friends, peers and adults since he does not have any parents to guide him. He became close friends with Zelda at a young age and they grew up together becoming best friends, much to the misery of a classmate who had eyes for her. He is willing to do anything to keep Zelda safe because she was always by his side.
Link isn’t the best when it comes to studying and keeping up with school work and activities, but he is at the top of his class and came in first during the practical for the end of the school year. He definitely learns with his hands rather than putting his nose to a book. He has a strong connection to his rare Crimson Loftwing and like with Zelda will go through great lengths to keep his Loftwing healthy and safe.
He is the most selfless person in The Sky and is often called upon by neighbours around town to do odd chores and help find missing items. He does them without hesitation and with a smile, taking pride in everything he does even if it is a small task. The children especially seem to love him and often show him interesting moves and tricks, and invite him to play.
He is especially skilled at flying on his Loftwing, and at close combat. He was trained on how to use a sword and shield and often practices at the sparring hall. For survival on The Surface, he had to gain knowledge on how to use slingshot, arrows, and bombs. It was through trial and error that Link was able to wield these items with skill without it backfiring on him.
His biggest weakness is his kind heart, which is easily taken advantage of. He is always one step behind in his quest to finding Zelda because he stops to assists the natives of the lands he travels to. This is particularly evident when Zelda’s guardian scolds him for his tardiness and inability to protect those he cares for the most because he is always one step behind. This is particularly stinging for Link to hear because he tries his hardest to protect those he cares about but always seems to end up falling short. Yet, that never slows him down, he just becomes more determined to prove himself.
AU Deviation:
Much like canon, Link will not know about his lineage, being raised in a local orphanage in Union. Because of this upbringing he will have a harder time making friends, because children came and went in the orphanage, as did the staff. He will be a little shyer and be more reclusive in social settings but yearns to interact with people. He still is determined to protect people and is willing to help anyone who is in need, but he is often left alone and not asked for favours because many people do not know who he is.
Link finds Pokemon fascinating. Whenever he is out in Union or relaxing under a tree at the park he takes special note of them. He finds them enchanting, the way they play with each other and are loyal to their master but not out of obligation, but out of respect. He would often find himself envying their relationship but smiling nonetheless. After everything humans and Pokemon went through in the past he found that this was the way life should have always been. Rather than enslaving Pokemon, they were meant to be partners not prisoners.
The Saviour was definitely the bravest person he had ever read about or heard about. He hopes to be like her, to protect everyone so they can find a harmonious balance, though he also hopes such a thing would never need to happen again.
Canon Abilities:
-Ability to use multitude of weapons and gadgets, including: grappling hook, slingshot, bow and arrow, bombs, beetle, Master Sword and the Master Shield.
-Ability to use the Master sword to catch light and reflect it back as a blade of light (known as the skyward strike).
-Ability to play the harp
-Ability to fly on Loftwing (if that is considered an ability)
Enlightened Abilities:
Flying/Fire
Trainer Ability: Kindred Soul
At the beginning Link will have a fire sword. This sword can burn through flammable material if used correctly. He will also have a pair of wings to allow him to fly (as per his flying type). His wings will be red with white tips and also have a purple and gold stripe (like how his Loftwing looks). Link will be unable to battle while flying and will only be able to travel short distances at this stage.
For his first evolution, Link's sword will be able to absorb fire/deflect fire moves, making it difficult to harm him with fire attacks, He will also be able to fly further distances and be able to use a small bow to take down any potential threats, however his accuracy will be low - tending to miss targets rather than hit them.
His second evolution, Link's sword will be able to, not only absorb fire, but use that fire to create a fire strike (such as he does with his skyward strike). He will also be able to fly without much difficulty and be able to wield the bow with sharper accuracy.
Starter Pokemon:
Eeeve, name Eve
Notes/Special Considerations:
None.
SAMPLES
First Person
To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
I would find them, even if it was the last thing I could do. I would never leave behind an ally, especially when I am capable of finding them. I would begin by packing a backpack full of materials I might need in the search (like ropes, flashlights, matches, food rations). Then I would use the knowledge of where they were last seen, and head for that spot, warding off enemies and threats with my sword an arrows. If I need to call my companion Eve for assistance I would, but only if I knew the outcome would not harm Eve. Once at the last known spot, I would track any clues that were left behind (footprints, broken twigs) and try to form a path of where they might have went. Even if night falls, I would keep searching for them until they were found and brought home.
What do you think your Pokemon respect most about you?
I think that my Pokemon respect that I respect them. They are not my tools to be used, they are not above or below the human race. Pokemon are companions and are equal to humans and deserve the same respect a human would receive. I would never put my Pokemon in deliberate harms way, or sacrifice them for the 'greater good'.
A human has attacked a wild Pokemon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
Given the situation, first I would defend the Pokemon. No human has the right to harm a Pokemon no matter what the reason was. Fighting will not solve the situation and just make it worse. However, if the Pokemon were attacking the human without stop in retaliation, I would step in to defend the human. Although I would not agree with the human for their actions, I do not believe that using violence would solve the issue. I think they would both need to be cooled down and then they can sort out whatever the problem was using words rather than fighting.
What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
My greatest duty is to protect my precious people. They are my foundation, and without them I would not be who I am. It's that simple.
Third-Person:
The atmosphere was tense and the silence loud. Nobody dared to cough or glance away from the books in front of them on the long wooden dining hall tables. Finals crept up on the students at Knight's Academy, and everybody was cramming.
Link focused on the book in front of him, but he was not reading it. He showed up to the cram session only because Zelda had barged her way into his room and pulled him out of bed before roughly shoving him into the dinning hall where the rest of their class was assembled. The history of Sky was not that interesting to him; he was more interested in the upcoming Wing Ceremony and the practical. He would be facing Groose and his friends, something to look forward to.
Link sighed and then grunted when an elbow slammed into his ribs with a stern look tossed his way courtesy of Zelda. She scowled and turned her attention back to her notes, signalling him to do the same. He sighed and turned his attention to the book. His mind raced with the thoughts of tomorrow's ceremony. Being able to win and go onto senior year as a knight in training. He idly wondered what colour the uniforms would be, and hoped they would be red. He wasn't too found of Pipit's washed out yellow suit, though it did suit him.
"If you're not here to study why did you come at all?"
He turned his attention to Zelda, ignoring the few glances that her harsh whisper brought.
"You dragged me here.:
She huffed and frowned, "leave if you're not going to be serious."
Without further promoting he quickly picked up his messed up notes and politely excused himself from the clustered table. As he bid good night to the dining lady, he wondered if he could get some time by the waterfall later that night. It had the greatest tree to take a nap under.
